Ingredients

  • Cream cheese, room temperature: 2 (16 ounce) packages
  • Unsalted butter, softened: 4 cups
  • All-purpose flour: 8 cups
  • Chopped walnuts: 2 pounds
  • Egg: 2
  • Honey: 1 cup
  • Poppyseed filling: 2 (12 ounce) cans
  • Egg white: 2
  • Confectioners’ sugar for dusting: 1 cup

Instructions

For a delectable treat, begin by creaming together softened cream cheese and unsalted butter until smooth. Gradually incorporate all-purpose flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until a dough forms.

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead until no longer sticky, approximately 5 minutes.

Next, prepare the walnut filling by crushing walnuts finely in a food processor. Stir in an egg and honey to create a smooth mixture.

Roll out the dough to a 1/4-inch thickness on a well-floured surface and cut into 3×3-inch squares.

For the poppyseed filling, use the provided canned poppyseed filling. Spoon a teaspoon of either walnut or poppyseed filling onto the center of each dough square.

Then, roll up the squares and seal the edges securely.

You may also shape them into triangles if desired. Place the filled kolaches on ungreased cookie sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.

Brush the tops with egg white and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15-17 minutes, or until lightly browned.

While the kolaches are cooling, prepare the apricot glaze by combining apricot preserves, granulated sugar, and water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat until the glaze thickens and becomes smooth.

Once the kolaches are completely cool, dip the tops into the apricot glaze.

Allow the excess glaze to drip off, then place the kolaches on a wire rack to set completely. Before serving, dust with confectioners’ sugar for a finishing touch.
