Ready Time

3 hrs 30 mins

8 servings

  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs, separated
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
  • 8 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup chopped semisweet chocolate or chocolate shavings for garnish
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).

In a medium bowl, mix together the graham cracker crumbs, granulated sugar, and melted butter until well combined.

Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, then let it cool completely.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the confectioners’ sugar, cocoa powder, and softened butter until smooth.

Beat in the egg yolks one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.

Set aside.

In another bowl, whisk together the milk, mascarpone cheese, and chopped semisweet chocolate until smooth.

Beat in the egg whites until stiff peaks form.

To assemble the lasagna, spread half of the cocoa mixture on the prepared crust.

Top with half of the whipped cream, then half of the mascarpone mixture.

Repeat the layers, ending with a layer of mascarpone mixture on top.

Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight.

Just before serving, sprinkle the top with chopped semisweet chocolate or chocolate shavings and dust with powdered sugar.

Slice and serve chilled.

Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor. Make sure to soften the butter to room temperature for easier mixing.

Prepare the crust first and let it cool completely to prevent it from crumbling when you assemble the lasagna.

Don’t overbeat the mixtures to avoid incorporating air, which can make the layers separate. When whipping the heavy cream, be patient as it takes a few minutes to form stiff peaks.

Assemble the lasagna just before refrigeration to prevent the layers from mixing.

Let it chill for at least 3 hours to allow the flavors to meld together. For a clean slice, dip your knife in hot water and wipe dry before slicing.
