Ready Time

15 mins

Yields

9 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cubed seedless watermelon (about 1 small to medium-sized melon)
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 cups water
  • Ice cubes (optional)

Instructions

In a blender or food processor, puree the cubed watermelon until smooth.

Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher, pressing on the solids to extract as much juice as possible.

Discard the solids.

Add the fresh mint leaves to the pitcher and muddle them gently with a spoon to release their oils and flavor.

Stir in the freshly squeezed lemon juice and sugar until the sugar has completely dissolved.

Add the water to the pitcher and stir well to combine.

Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

To serve, pour the lemonade into glasses filled with ice cubes, if desired.

Garnish with additional fresh mint leaves and a slice of watermelon, if desired.

Serve immediately and refresh!

Notes

For the best flavor and texture, make sure to use a ripe but firm watermelon – it should be heavy for its size and have a yellow spot on the underside.

Don’t skip the step of straining the watermelon mixture, as it will help remove excess pulp and fibers.

If you’re not a fan of mint, you can reduce the amount or omit it altogether, but keep in mind that it adds a nice cooling contrast to the sweet watermelon.

Adjust the amount of sugar to your taste – some people prefer their lemonade more tart, while others like it sweeter.

You can also add a few slices of cucumber or a handful of ice cubes to the pitcher for added refreshment.

To make this recipe more festive, serve it in a large jug or dispenser with plenty of ice and garnishes, and let guests help themselves.

Since this recipe makes 9 servings, feel free to halve or double the ingredients as needed.
