Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups watermelon chunks (seedless)
  • 1 1/2 ounces tequila
  • 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce agave syrup
  • 1/4 ounce triple sec
  • Salt for rimming glasses
  • Ice
  • Fresh lime wedges for garnish
  • Watermelon slice or wheel for garnish

Instructions

Rim five glasses with salt.

In a blender, puree the watermelon chunks until smooth, then strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large bowl to remove any excess pulp.

In a large pitcher, combine the watermelon puree, tequila, lime juice, agave syrup, and triple sec.

Stir well to combine.

Fill the prepared glasses with ice and pour the margarita mixture over the ice.

Stir gently.

Garnish each glass with a lime wedge and a slice or wheel of watermelon.

Serve immediately and toast to the sweet taste of summer!

Notes

Watermelon Margaritas are best made with ripe, sweet watermelon for the best flavor, so choose a watermelon that’s heavy for its size and has a creamy yellow spot on one end. If you want a stronger watermelon flavor, use 3 cups of chunks instead of 2 1/4 cups.

For a more intense lime flavor, increase the lime juice to 3/4 ounce or more to taste.

Triple sec can be substituted with other orange-flavored liqueurs like Cointreau or Grand Marnier. To make the margaritas ahead, prepare the watermelon puree and mix the drink ingredients in the pitcher, but don’t add the ice until serving.

Keep the mixture chilled in the refrigerator until serving time.
