This refreshing Watermelon Lime Agua Fresca is the perfect drink for hot summer days.

By blending and straining sweet seedless watermelon, you’ll unlock its juicy goodness, then mix it with zesty lime juice and a touch of sugar for a revitalizing treat that’s both tart and sweet.

Ready Time

30 mins

5 servings

  • 4 cups diced seedless watermelon (about 1 small to medium-sized melon)
  • 1 cup fresh lime juice (about 6-8 limes)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups water
  • Ice cubes (optional)
  • Fresh lime wedges and watermelon slices for garnish (optional)

In a blender or food processor, puree the diced watermelon until smooth. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large bowl, pressing on the solids to extract as much juice as possible.

Discard the solids.

In a large pitcher, whisk together the watermelon juice, lime juice, and sugar until the sugar is completely dissolved. Add the water to the pitcher and stir to combine.

Taste and adjust the sweetness and lime juice to your liking.

Chill the agua fresca in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. To serve, fill glasses with ice, if desired, and pour the agua fresca over the ice.

Garnish with fresh lime wedges and watermelon slices, if desired.

Serve immediately and enjoy!

For a lighter flavor, you can use 3/4 cup of sugar instead of 1 cup.

Make sure to choose a ripe watermelon for the best flavor, a yellow spot on one side is a good indicator of ripeness.

If you don’t have a blender or food processor, you can simply mash the watermelon with a fork to extract the juice.

Adjust the amount of lime juice to your taste, if you prefer a stronger or weaker lime flavor.

This agua fresca is perfect for outdoor gatherings or picnics, simply prepare the juice and sugar mixture ahead of time and add the water when you’re ready to serve.

You can also add a few mint leaves to the pitcher for a refreshing twist on the flavor.

For a fancier look, garnish with a sprig of fresh mint instead of watermelon slices.

Experiment with different types of melons, like cantaloupe or honeydew, for a unique flavor spin.
